Ben joined Sterling Group in August 2015 after leaving Victoria Police, to take up a Client Representative role in the Melbourne Underground Rail Loop (MURL) for Stage 1 of the Fire and Life Upgrade Project. After the completion of the project, Ben gained his Rail Safeworking Level 3 where he managed the daily safety of the Asset and Signals inspections team on the Metro rail network. He also worked as a Project Coordinator for the Aurecon Jacobs Mott McDonald (AJM) JV to assist the early investigation activities for the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project.
Ben was one of the founding members to join ActivateRail in January 2018, where he further developed his knowledge of the various rail networks by running multiple 3rd party access jobs for many clients. Ben coordinated large scale projects including the Inland Rail Project for KBR, and the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline Project before taking up a secondment position in September 2018 at V/Line as the Rail Interface Manager between the Rail Infrastructure Alliance (RIA) and V/Line. Ben held this position until the completion of the works package in June 2019.
In Mid-July 2019, Ben offered to take on another challenging role as the Rail Interface Manager for the Level Crossing Removal Project Technical Advisory, leading the site access team under the HSE Manager, where he currently remains. He was promoted to the position of Project Consultant in November 2019 because of his broad knowledge and experience in rail and non-rail environments, including safety. Ben is a valuable asset to the project as it continues to deliver pre-construction investigation activities. His role includes but is not limited to managing other ActivateRail employees seconded to the project, completing monthly site compliance audits, coordinating site access to the rail networks, stakeholder and sub-contractor engagement and process changes for the project.
